LA based musical duo, Pipes, pairs together producer Stevie Be and vocalist Matty P. The long-time friends met while navigating the club scenes of LA and attribute much of their influence to underground mainstays like Mustache Mondays, Wildness and A Club Called Rhonda. Pipes’ eclectic sound makes it difficult to sweep them into only one genre. Songs like Night Eternal and Sleeping display Matty’s crooner vocals as spread over Stevie’s dark house beats. While Confession combines pitched down samples and subtle crescendos that paint the perfect backdrop for Matty’s raw rap verses.
Their dj sets never let the party stop. Stevie takes to the decks while Matty MCs and seamlessly incorporates the group’s dance tracks like Function and Heartbeats. They’ve also gained a reputation for elaborate stage productions. An infamous YouTube video from Pipes’ Check Yo Ponytail performance shows the duo going all-out with major set pieces, vogue dancers and gritty costumes all while Matty sings out “We’re gonna make you lose control!” Indeed, they will.
